The game takes place in the same universe as Outlast, but features different characters in a different setting. Knoth and his flock are preparing for the tribulations of the end of times and you’re right in the thick of it. Outlast 2 introduces you to Sullivan Knoth and his followers, who left our wicked world behind to give birth to Temple Gate, a town, deep in the wilderness and hidden from civilization. Some players may find it a little more linear than the original, which focused more on exploration, but the result of this narrowing is better presentation of the horror set-pieces.The investigation has lead you miles into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do. There's also a little more creativity shown in the environment design in this game, the architecture itself may shift and change, suggesting that all is not as it seems. Here, the action moves relatively quickly between different locations. Outlast 2 is a little more briskly-paced than its predecessor, which had some tense but slow-paced stealth sections. Your camera's night-vision function lets you see in the dark, but the batteries are running out scavenging for power supplies is therefore at the heart of gameplay.
