NEW YORK CITY (JULY 10, 2023) - Kung Fu Tea, America’s largest bubble tea brand, announced a Summer partnership with Nintendo to celebrate the release of the long-awaited Pikmin 4 game on the Nintendo Switch family of systems. Additionally players can now rewind time if they lose too many Pikmin, and the game looks to have a cozier aesthetic than prior titles between characters like Oatchi and the Rescue Corp, along with cute settings to explore like the inside of a house or in a park.īelow is Pikmin's lifetime sales history for main numbered titles (except for Pikmin 3 Deluxe which is only current sales as of December 2021) per Celine's thread on Nintendo's historical software sales.Īmerica’s largest bubble tea company announces a new summer partnership with the latest installment of the Pikmin franchise! Pikmin 4 looks to address at least some of those points such as there being no 30 day time limit like the first game, as well as time slowing to a standstill in caves. Some of the elements that people have pointed out to over the years for why they haven't gotten into the Pikmin franchise include the use of a time limit, watching the Pikmin die or get left behind, and the game's enemies having sometimes creepy or frightening designs all coming together to give a feeling of stress and foreboding to players. It's sales have largely been in between the 1 to 2 million range, with 3 Deluxe being the first title to sell over 2 million copies. Pikmin as a franchise goes back 22 years ago to the start of the Gamecube in 2001. Additionally the Pikmin Bloom app launched on mobile devices a few years ago, and Pikmin even make cameos at the Super Nintendo World parks in Japan and Hollywood. Pikmin have been around on Switch before too with Pikmin 3 getting a Deluxe version. 4 has had very good marketing, alongside a free demo of the game, tie-in merch for the Pikmin series particularly in Japan, and complementary titles to push the IP like the recently released Pikmin 1+2 HD remasters on the Switch eShop.

Nintendo is very clearly trying their best to push Pikmin outside of its niche into a wider audience. It's the latest mainline numbered entry in the Pikmin series in almost exactly 10 years since the release of Pikmin 3 on Wii U in the summer of 2013. Pikmin 4 will release two weeks from now.
